Movie Land, Kyoto.
On Friday, we started the day at Movie Land. It’s like… MGM on a smaller scale. Lots of samurai and ninja movies have been and still are shot at the studios there, and you can walk through many of the sets they use. It also acts as a museum for much of the film and television Japan produces, including the Super Sentai series, which became what many Americans know as The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Growing up, I loved the Power Rangers. I was so excited to get home from school and see another new episode every afternoon. The show used an American cast and changed certain details of the show to be more accessible to the American audience, but the producers spliced the scenes with the American cast with the action scenes from the Super Sentai series. All the action scenes are right out of the Japanese show. So the costumes and mecha and everything that I remember were all featured in the Movie Land museum. Including Jason’s Red Tyrannosaurus. Al saw it, and he started bouncing around like a seven year old boy. I had to get a picture.
