Nara Park, Nara. All up and down the sidewalks of Nara, tourists can find vendors selling cookies just for the deer. A few of us bought packs; I shelled out the 150 yen (about $1.50) for one bundle of goodies. The deer are well acquainted with these stands and with being approached by tourists with food, and calling them gluttonous cows would an understatement. They get a little pushy about their cookies! They reminded me of Molly: the moment you get a cookie in your hand, things get very serious. Al got a few shots of me feeding them, but here’s one of Maddie being swarmed by hungry deer.
