Todai-ji, Nara.
Once we finished feeding the deer, we went to Todai-ji, one of Japan’s most famous Buddhist temples. The Great Buddha Hall, pictured here, is the largest wooden building in the world, and it houses the world’s largest statue of the Buddha Vairocana.
To put that into perspective for anyone not versed in Buddhism, Buddha Vairocana is the embodiment of Dharmakaya. Vairocana is comparable, in Christian terms, to the God-the-Father aspect of the Holy Trinity. So this site is a big deal in the Buddhist religion.
